Thunder Run Walk ‘n Roll will be held in Fairbanks and Anchorage on Saturday June 6, 2009 at 12:00pm Noon – 4pm.
The Anchorage 5K run will start at Wood Side Park (20th & Ingra) and walk towards Goose Lake and back to the park for a picnic catered by Cater Alaska! This is a 5K Fun Walk/Run. The Opening Ceremonies will begin at 12:00pm noon with Acting Mayor Matt Clamans reading a Proclamation. The Ribbon Cutting Ceremony will follow with Astronaut Billy O doing the honors.
The lead-off team, TEAM ALASKA will be made up of City of Anchorage and State of Alaska agencies that are affected by an alcohol related crash. So far we have; Chief of Police Rob Heun, Lt. Dave Parker, Col. Audie Holloway, Prosecutor Adrienna Bachman, Superintendent of Anchorage Schools Carol Comeau, Acting Mayor Matt Claman, Alaska Highway Safety Office Cindy Cashen, DMV Director Whitney Brewster and Alaska’s Astronaut Bill Oefelein. A paramedic, news director, fireman, emergency room nurse, funeral director, lawyer, judge, medical examiner, 911 operator and a chaplain will also participate.
The Fairbanks run will start at UAF Taku Parking Lot (on Farmers Loop across from the Transfer Station) and continue for a 5K Fun Walk/ Run on the bike path on Farmers Loop to the Bethel Church. Mayor Isaacson will read the Proclamation. We are in the process of putting together a TEAM ALASKA for this run and more information will be coming soon about that. At Bethel Church there will be a picnic catered by Pikes Landing! There will also be door prizes and a lot of fun!
Walk or run by yourself, or join a team of your co-workers, family or friends. Rollerblades and strollers are welcome.
If you collect $75 in pledges, you will be guaranteed to receive an event T-shirt and water bottle!
You can also purchase an event T-shirt for $12 and a Water Bottle for $10 at the event or on the Registration Page.
There are special prizes for pledge totals collected of $500 and $1000!!!
We are also pleased to have Astronaut William “Billy” Oefelein, Alaska’s first man in space participating in this event! He will be at the Kick Off Party on Friday June 5th from 4-7pm at the Harley-Davidson Farthest North Outpost in Fairbanks.
Billy O will also be participating in the Anchorage Thunder Run Walk ‘n Roll at noon on June 6th.

Can’t walk or run with us? You can still wear virtual shoes and help the cause! Register today and collect $75 in pledges and you’ll receive the T-shirt and Water Bottle!
The funds raised will benefit victims of drunk driving crashes, create a victim memorial book, provide scholarships and build a memorial, aid law enforcement agencies and help fund various school projects dealing with drunk driving in Alaska.
